
I work at the intersection of applied research, policy and intervention, with a long-standing focus on powered two-wheeler safety and mobility. My work examines how practices and risks emerge from interactions between people, organisations, infrastructure, regulation and wider mobility systems — and how evidence can inform more context-sensitive policies and interventions.
Four interconnected research themes frame my work — from the territorial conditions shaping mobility to the mechanisms through which evidence reaches policy.
How mobility practices are shaped by territories, transport services, infrastructure, accessibility, economic constraints and formal and informal forms of organisation and regulation.
How road users perceive risk, make decisions and develop safety practices — understanding the contexts in which practices become possible, normal or persistent.
How individual and collective experience, learning and adaptive capacity contribute to the stabilisation or evolution of practices within mobility systems.
How research, field evidence and stakeholder knowledge can inform policy, programme design and interventions adapted to specific institutional and territorial contexts.
How do interactions between individual practices, social and organisational dynamics, and territorial configurations contribute to the construction, stabilisation and evolution of powered two-wheeler safety practices in different territorial mobility systems in Africa?
